Good anime to get into?

Title says it all. What are some good Anime series to get into? Don't just list stuff, review the series and tell me a bit about it.

InuYasha - Kagome, an average teenage girl, lives on a shrine that her family has maintained for generations. one day, she is next to a well on the shrine grounds when a demon emerges and drags her in, taking her 500 years into the past, into Feudal Japan, where she meets the half-demon InuYasha. here she learns she is the reincarnation of an ancient priestess named Kikyo, who had the Sacred Shikon jewel burned with her when she died. The jewel is shattered, and it's power, coveted by demons all over the land, is spread all over. InuYasha and Kagome team up to reunite the jewel fragments and meet new friends and enemies along the way...

Rurouni Kenshin (Samurai X) - Kenshin Himura claims to be a wanderer, but he carries a sword, which is outlawed in the new Meiji era government, which was established ten years before the series begins. It turns out Himura was very famous during the revolution that formed the Meiji government, and was known as the invincible Battosai the Manslayer. he uses the Hiitan Mitsurugi style of combat, with godlike speed that the average human cannot even see. He has renounced his ways as a manslayer, having made a vow to never take another life, and carries a reverse-blade sword, so that this style that would otherwise be guaranteed to kill is non-fatal.

Seen every Inuyasha, ending upset me.

Heard good things about Samurai X, so I may just give that a go.
